Broncos use combination of stellar pitching and aggressive baserunning to crack win column, defeating Dolphins, 9-2

The Broncos' baseball team picked up its first victory of the 2025 campaign on Monday afternoon, using a combination of great pitching and aggressive baserunning to blow out the Mount Saint Vincent JV team by a score of 9-2 at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the victory, Bronx improved to a mark of 1-4 on the season.

Bronx scored six of its nine runs on the afternoon in the top of the first inning, as the first five Broncos hitters that came to the dish reached base and scored.

Giancarlo Leon kickstarted the offense with a double to center, before he stole third base and came around to score when catcher Joe Reid's throw went into left field. Robert Genao then walked, stole a pair of bases, and then dented home plate on Justin Rosario Cruz's triple. Yael Bernard Familia then drew a walk, before the Broncos executed a double steal to make it 3-0 in favor of the hosts.

The next Broncos batter, Justin Perez, doubled to left field to chase home Bernard Familia to make it 4-0 Bronx. After the Broncos added a fifth run, Leon capped the scoring for the frame by hitting a sacrifice fly to bring home Jason Espinoza, as Bronx snatched a commanding 6-0 edge after one.

Bronx tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth, and one in the seventh, to take a commanding 8-0 advantage. The Dolphins make things slightly tense in the top of the eighth, adding a pair of runs against Broncos relievers Justin Martinez and Keith Rodriguez, but the Broncos ultimately escaped the top of the eighth with minimal damage done, holding a sizable 8-2 advantage.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Broncos scored their ninth and final run courtesy of a RBI single by Luis Torries, as Cruz trotted home to give Bronx a 9-2 advantage. Mount Saint Vincent's JV squad went down in order in the top of the ninth as Bronx went on to earn the commanding victory.

Broncos veteran Frailin Jimenez was masterful on the mound for Bronx, as he evened his personal record to 1-1 on the year, tossing five brilliant scoreless frames, allowing just three hits while walking two, hitting a batter, and striking out 11. He faced just six batters passed the minimum, pitching with incredible pace and efficiency. Reliever Justin Martinez hurled 2.2 quality innings, allowing just one earned run while walking three and striking out five, and Keith Rodriguez twisted the final 1.1 frames, allowing one earned run while issuing two free passes and striking out two.

Luis Regalado got the start for the Mount Saint Vincent JV squad, as he took the loss, allowing six earned runs on four hits while walking four and striking out two. The Dolphins relievers, Kaden Cole, Keylon Cole, and Berk Gezlev combined to pitch well in relief, combining for five innings tossed and allowing just three earned runs while striking out nine batters.
