Broncos drop home contests to Titans, Roadrunners over the weekend

The Broncos' baseball team opened its home portion of the 2025 schedule with a pair of defeats, falling to the Titans of County College of Morris this past Friday by a score of 13-9 (five innings, called due to darkness), and to the Roadrunners of Rowan College of Gloucester County 12-1 (seven innings) this past Sunday. With the pair of defeats, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-4 on the 2025 campaign, while the Titans improved to 3-3, and the Roadrunners upped their mark to an unblemished 11-0.

Friday, March 7 – Titans 13, Broncos 9 (Five Innings)

In what was a high-scoring game this past Friday, the Broncos and Titans combined to dent home plate 22 times in just five innings of action. After County College of Morris snatched an early 2-0 advantage in the top of the first, the Broncos responded with three runs of their own to catapult ahead by a score of 3-2.

After the Titans squared the game at three-all in the top of the second, Bronx dented home plate twice in the bottom of the second to retake the lead, 5-3.

Both squads exchanged the lead in the third inning, each scoring four runs, but County College of Morris finished the game with six unanswered runs to account for the 13-9 final score.

Offensively for the Broncos, Juan Rodriguez was the team's primary run-producer in the contest, as he homered, singled, scored a run, and picked up four RBI. Giancaro Leon singled, walked, and drove in two, and Yael Bernard Familia and Robert Genaro each homered, with Bernard Familia's round-tripper plating two. Luis Villaman reached base twice (walk, HBP) while scoring a pair of runs, and William Whitcomb drew a walk and scored twice.

Santiago Nunez paced the Titans with a triple, single, walk, three runs scored, and four runs driven in. Josh Brancy reached base five times, as he singled twice, drew two walks, was hit by a pitch, hit a sacrifice fly, dented home plate twice, and picked up three RBI. James Turchi, Myles Nova, and Jayden Miller drove in two runs apiece, and Josh Chen tripled, singled twice, scored three runs, and picked up one RBI.

Justin Martinez started on the mount for the Broncos, as he received a no-decision, twisting 2.1 innings of work and allowing seven runs (six earned) on four hits while walking five, hitting a batter, and striking out four. Kevin Baez took the loss in relief, hurling two frames and allowing five runs (all earned) on four hits while issuing two free passes, hitting a batter, and striking out one.

Will Schraft struggled on the hill for County College of Morris, as he allowed five runs (four earned) in 1.1 innings of action, allowing three hits, walking one, hitting a batter, and striking out one. Reliever Will Nee got the victory, tossing one scoreless frame, walking one and whiffing two.

Sunday, March 9 – Roadrunners 12, Broncos 1 (Seven Innings)

Rowan College of Gloucester County dominated Sunday's game from the jump, plating four runs in the first inning, and scoring in every frame except for the third on its way to a big 11-run triumph.

Bronx mustered only one hit and five total baserunners for the game, with Genao picking up a single and Bernard Familia, Luis Torres, and Jason Espinoza all drawing walks. Justin Rosario Cruz reached base via a hit-by-pitch.

Matt Brunner drove in three runs for the victorious Roadrunners, as he singled twice, walked, dented home plate twice, and drove in three runs. Gavin West reached base four times, singling twice, drawing a walk, and getting hit by a pitch. He also scored two runs, as well. Kyle McSorley singled twice and walked, and RJ Mustaro, Joe Maier, Gabriel Reyes, and Nicco Maribo eached drove in a run.

Justin Rosario Cruz started and took the loss for the Broncos, and he pitched three innings and allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits while walking two, hitting a batter, and striking out two.

Victor Oquendo earned the triumph on the hill for the unblemished Roadrunners, as he twisted three frames, allowing just one earned run on two hits while walking one and striking out six.

The Broncos will return to action this afternoon, wrapping-up this three game homestand with a game against the Mount Saint Vincent JV baseball squad. First pitch at Ohio Field in the Bronx, NY is scheduled for 3:00pm.
