Broncos dominate second half, blow out Suffolk Sharks by a score of 67-34 on Homecoming night

The Broncos' women's basketball team halted its losing streak at two games last night, defeating the Sharks of Suffolk by a score of 67-34 in Region XV action. The contest, which served as the team's Homecoming game, took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the victory, Bronx improved to a mark of 3-2 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while Suffolk dipped to 4-2.

In the victory for Bronx, standout Destiny Davis was fantastic, as she registered game-highs of 21 points, eight steals, and five assists. Additionally, she snatched five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass. Amber Alexander finished with 16 points, four boards, and four steals, and ace Kolonnie Green posted a double-double, finishing with 12 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, six steals, a game-high four blocks, and two assists. Finally, it was Akira Robertson finalizing her evening with six points, three steals, three boards, and a pair of assists.

Only one player scored in double figures for the visiting Sharks, and that was Megan Popielaski, as she flirted with a double-double, scoring a team-high 10 points to go along with nine rebounds. Emily Robinson contributed eight points, five boards, three assists, and a team-high three blocks, and Alyssa Dabbraccio scored six points, collected three rebounds, and dished two steals. Finally, it was Ashley Peralta pulling down a team-high 10 boards, while also adding a team-best four dimes.

After a tightly-contested first half that saw the Broncos take a slim 24-20 edge to the locker room at halftime, Bronx absolutely dominated the second half, outscoring Suffolk 27-8 in the third to break the game open, and then finishing the triumph off by netting 16 points in the fourth while holding the Sharks to 6. The Broncos were a plus-29 in the second half to account for the 33-point margin of victory.

The Broncos were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as Bronx connected on 34.9 percent of its attempts from the floor (29-83), while Suffolk earned a conversion rate of just 25.6 percent (11-43). The Broncos held a 51-43 edge on the glass, while also swiping a whopping 30 steals compared to seven for the opposition. Bronx held a 17-9 advantage in assists, and the teams swatted four shots apiece. The Broncos' aggressive defensive style coerced Suffolk into 41 turnovers, while Bronx committed 19 turnovers on the night.

The Broncos will return to action on Thursday evening looking to secure their second consecutive win, as Bronx welcomes the Colts of Middlesex to the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
