Broncos unable to establish rhythm offensively in loss to CUNY foe Kingsborough

The Broncos' women's basketball team dropped a CUNY game this past Thursday evening, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough by a score of 72-31. The contest took place in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to a mark of 2-2 on the 2025-2026 campaign (2-1 CUNY), while the Wave improved to 3-3, staying unblemished in conference action.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Akela Robertson led the way for the Broncos with a team-high six points to go along with five rebounds and a pair of steals. Destiny Davis and Akira Robertson scored five points apiece, with Davis also registering team-highs of three assists and three steals, and Kolonnie Green added a team-high seven rebounds, and a game-high five blocked shots.

The Wave was paced by Justinna Boatwright, as he posted a double-double, scoring a game-high 19 points, and tying for the game-highs of 11 rebounds and six steals. Kianny Aristy connected on four trifectas, finishing with 15 points, tying for game-highs of six steals and four assists, and snatching three rebounds. Aneiyah Alexander finalized her evening with 13 points, 11 boards, and two assists, and Shaimaa Yarrou netted seven points on the night.

Kingsborough held a 17-7 advantage after one quarter, and the Wave outscored the Broncos 17-7 again in the second quarter to take a 34-14 advantage at halftime. The Wave gradually built that lead over the final 20 minutes of action, going up by 30 after three (53-23), before outscoring the visitors 19-8 in the final 20 minutes to account for the 41-point margin of victory.

The Wave connected on 43.1 percent of its attempts from the floor (25-58), and 72 percent of its opportunities from the stripe (18-25), while the Broncos earned a conversion rate of 28.2 percent (11-39), and misfired on six of 10 free throw attempts (4-10, 40 percent).

Kingsborough held a commanding 40-23 advantage on the glass, while also dishing 14 assists to the Broncos' 11. The hosts recorded 20 steals on the night to Bronx's 9, and the Broncos held a 6-1 edge in the swatted shots category. The teams combined for 53 turnovers, with Bronx accounting for 35, and Kingsborough committing 18.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday evening, as Bronx will welcome the Suffolk Sharks to the Alumni Gymnasium for a Region XV contest. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
