Four Broncos score in double figures in CUNY C.C. Conference loss to Kingsborough Wave

The Broncos' men's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC Community College Conference game on Thursday evening, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College by a score of 105-73. The game took place in Brooklyn, NY, on the campus of KCC. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 1-14 on the 2024-2025 campaign, while the Wave improved to 9-8.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Abraham Richter (8-12 FT) tied for the game-high of 21 points, while also leading all players with 15 points. Additionally, he added five dimes, two blocked shots, and two steals. Matayus Kola finished his evening with 17 points, eight caroms, five assists, and three steals, and Alexander Hattel netted 16 points, grabbed nine boards, tied for the game-high of five steals, and added four assists. Finally, Ousman Tunkara netted 13 points, snatched four boards, tallied three steals, and dished a pair of assists.

For the Wave, Abdoul Toure tied for the game-high of 21 points (8-17 FG) while dishing four assists and tallying four steals. Oliver Reyes Jr. and Torian Douglas netted 20 points apiece, with Reyes Jr. also dishing seven assists, grabbing six rebounds, and tallying five steals, and Douglas adding five dimes. Christopher Jace posted a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals, and Justin Blackett added 13 points, seven boards, five assists, and two steals.

Trailing 22-12 with 11:07 remaining in the first half, the Broncos used a 9-0 run over a span of 2:31, courtesy of Hattel's six points, and another three from Richter, to pull to within a point (22-21). The Wave responded by scoring 13 consecutive points, highlighted by Toure's eight points, to snatch a 14-point edge (35-21) with 7:23 left in the half. Kingsborough continued to build its advantage from there, eventually going up by as many as 32 before heading into the locker room with a commanding 62-32 advantage.

In the second half, the Wave took a lead as big as 40 points, and the Broncos never drew closer than 30 points down, as Kingsborough went on to record a convincing 32-point triumph (105-73).

Kingsborough earned a conversion rate of 52.4 percent for the evening (43-82), while Bronx connected on 39.1 percent of its shot attempts (27-69). The Wave held a slim 45-42 edge on the glass, while also dishing 34 assists to the Broncos' 16. Kingsborough held a 21-14 edge in steals, while also winning the turnover battle, committing just 18 miscues to Bronx's 28.

Bronx will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos welcome the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College to the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the game is scheduled for 2:00pm.
