Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Collective team effort paces Broncos to dominant 5-2 home win over Falcons

The Broncos' men's soccer team picked up a hard-fought victory on Thursday afternoon, dominating the Falcons of Dutchess Community College by a score of 5-2. The match took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the triumph, Bronx squared its 2024 record to 3-3, while the Falcons dipped to 0-7.

After the teams played 22 scoreless minutes, the Broncos opened up the scoring when newcomer Mikdad Abubakar scored off a pass from veteran Mohammed Ali. Bronx pushed its advantage to a pair of goals nine minutes later when Ali once again set up a goal, this time slipping a pass over to offensive ace Ashraf Abubakar who slashed the ball into the net to make it 2-0 Broncos. A pair of unassisted tallies by Ali (40:00) and Ashraf Abubakar (42:00) increased Bronx's advantage to 4-0, as that would be the score as time expired on the opening session.

In the second half, Ashraf Abubakar earned the hat trick, heading home Julien Sossa's cross to make it 5-0 Broncos. Dutchess scored a pair of tallies courtesy of an Andrews Agbesi penalty kick goal at 87:00, and another score by Dailalrahman Ahmed (from Nicholas Baez) at 88:00. The Broncos went on to win the match by a count of 5-2.

Bronx dominated in shot attempts, recorded 27 for the match, including 12 on-goal. The Falcons finished the afternoon with 11 shots, including six on-net. Both squads earned 13 corner kick opportunities apiece.

Broncos netminder Edwin Martinez earned the victory between the pipes, allowing a pair of goals while making four saves. Dutchess goalkeeper Matthew Canzone took the loss, allowing five goals while making seven stops.

Bronx will return to action Tuesday evening, as the Broncos travel to Valhalla High School to battle Westchester Community College. Start-time is scheduled for 6:30pm.
