Powerful Roadrunners offense dominates Broncos; Brayan Rubio shines on hill, at dish despite defeat

The Broncos' baseball team dropped a road game at Rowan College of Gloucester County on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Roadrunners by a score of 24-1. The contest took place in Sewell, NJ, and was called after six innings due to a lack of sunlight. With the defeat, Bronx dipped a mark of 2-4 on the 2024 campaign, while the hosts improved to a record of 17-2.

The high-powered offensive prowess of the Roadrunners put some distance between themselves and the Broncos early, as Rowan College plated seven runs in the first inning before tacking on an additional 10 in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 17-0 edge. Later, leading 18-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, the Roadrunners dented home plate six more times to round out its scoring barrage.

After scoring 29 runs in a three-game set this past weekend against Bunker Hill, the Broncos produced just one run on four hits against Rowan College. Brayan Rubio has Bronx's lone RBI, as he tripled to plate a run. Justin Martinez (double), Joel Salcedo (single), and Brayant Taylor (singled) accounted the Broncos' other three hits.

Rowan College collected 16 hits on the afternoon, including seven that went for extra bases. The primary run-producers were Juan Peralta and Caden Dulin, who picked five and four RBI's, respectively. Peralta put together a three-hit day, singling all three times and scoring twice, while Dulin tripled, singled, and dented home plate three times. Cleanup hitter Ernesto Polanco homered, singled twice, scored three runs, and picked up three RBI's, and Max D'Allesandro tripled, walked three times, scored four times, and drove in three.

Frailin Jimenez took the bump for the Broncos, as he earned the loss, lasting just 1.2 innings and allowing 17 runs (six earned) on 11 hits while walking five and striking out one. One bright spot for Bronx on the hill was the relief effort of Brayan Rubio, as he pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit, issuing two free passes, and striking out one.

Ethan Price started and captured the victory for the Roadrunners, as he tossed five frames, allowing just one run (earned) on three hits while walking one and striking out seven.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday, March 26, as Bronx will travel to Brooklyn, NY to take on Kingsborough in a CUNYAC game. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
