Broncos finalize 2023-2024 men's basketball campaign with loss to Falcons

The Broncos' men's basketball team wrapped-up its 2023-2024 campaign on Tuesday evening, falling to the Falcons of Dutchess Community College by a score of 107-46. The contest took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the defeat, the Broncos finalized their season at 3-24 overall.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Taijay Good led the way with a team-high 11 points. Veteran Herbert Gary capped his brilliant Broncos career with nine points, nine rebounds, a team-high four assists, and two steals, and freshman James Wenzel scored seven points, snatched two boards, swatted a pair of shots, and registered two steals.

In the victory for Dutchess, the Falcons were paced by Nashaun Johnson, as he connected on nine of his 10 shots, including all five of his launches from downtown, to finish with a game-high 31 points. He also added five rebounds, while registering three assists. Nyrie Hicks posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. He also tied for the game-high of seven assists. Finally, it was Prince Kamate adding 13 points, four boards, three assists, and a pair of steals.

The first half featured competitive basketball, with neither squad taking more than a nine-point lead until late in the stanza. Raesean Greer's converted free throw gave Dutchess a double-digit lead for the first time, as the Falcons led 37-27. The Falcons held a 37-29 advantage at halftime.

Dutchess completely dominated the second half, outscoring Bronx 34-1 to start the session, and 70-17 for the entirety of the half. The Falcons went on to win the contest easily, by 61 (107-46).

The efficient Falcons connected on 45.9 percent of their shot attempts for the game (39-85), including 40.9 percent of their launches from downtown (9-22), and 76.9 percent of their free throw attempts (20-26). On the flip side, the Broncos struggled shooting the basketball, earning a conversion rate of just 25.7 percent (19-74). Bronx also misfired on 10 free throws (6-16), earning a percentage of 37.5 from the stripe.

Dutchess dominated the glass, snatching 66 rebounds, while the hosts had 43. The Falcons held a 29-11 edge in assists, as well as a 16-8 advantage in steals. Dutchess also won the turnover battle, committing 14 miscues, while the Broncos had 24.
