Broncos shoot 53.7 percent, but 29 turnovers prove costly in season-opening loss to BMCC

Box Score The Broncos' men's basketball team began its 2024-2025 campaign this past Saturday, falling to the Panthers of the Borough of Manhattan Community College by a score of 91-74. The contest served as the season-opener for both squads, and took place at the BMCC Gymnasium in New York, NY.

Despite the loss for Bronx, newcomer Andi Metaliaj scored a team-high 14 points, connecting on six of his eight attempts from the floor. He also contributed three rebounds, as well as three assists. Ismael Sow (5-7 FG) netted 11 points while snatching six rebounds and tallying two steals, and Matayus Kola and Alexnader Hattel scored seven points apiece. Kola's three steals were a team-high, while Hattel added three assists. Finally, it was veteran James Wenzel snatching a team-best seven boards for the Broncos.

The Panthers' Khalil Black's 24 points led all players. The standout was extremely efficient from the free throw line, sinking 11 of his 12 attempts there. He also grabbed five rebounds while dishing two assists. Kimmeo Dixson added 21 points, connecting on five triples in the process, and Amar Loadholt was the other BMCC player to score in double figures, as she scored 18 points while grabbing four rebounds. Zaden Henderson's eight caroms led all players, and Ja'Lyn Griffin's four assists was a game-high.

BMCC held a 49-38 lead at the half, and outscored the Broncos 42-36 in the final 20 minutes of action to account for the 17-point triumph.

Bronx lost the game despite shooting way more efficiently, converting on 29 of its 54 attempts from the floor (53.7 percent) compared to just a 39.5 percent conversion rate for the hosts (32-81). The Broncos held a 32-31 edge on the glass, while also dishing 19 assists to the Panthers' 10. A huge difference in the game was ball security, as Bronx turned the ball over 29 times, while BMCC committed just 13 miscues.

The Broncos will return to the hardwood on Thursday evening, as Bronx will take on Hostos Community College at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 8:00pm.
