Broncos outworked by Wave as Kingsborough registers convincing victory at Alumni Gymnasium

The Broncos' women's basketball team suffered a home defeat on Thursday evening, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College by a score of 117-27. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to a mark of 1-3 on the 2024-2025 campaign, while Kingsborough improved to 6-1.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Taylar Hill paced the home team, connecting on four shots from downtown, and totaling a team-best 12 points. Veteran Katherine Reyes finished with five points and eight rebounds, and Yahannis Martinez registered four points while collecting a team-high nine boards, dishing three assists, and swiping a pair of steals.

Kingsborough was paced by the tandem of Endya Green and Zakieya Williams, with both student-athletes recording double-doubles on the night. Greene registered game-highs of 35 points and 17 rebounds while also swiping five steals and adding a pair of assists, while Williams scored 33 points, collected 13 boards, and posted game-highs of seven assists and six steals. Jayden Vega and Kayla Wilson scored 13 and 11 points, respectively, with Wilson reaching double figures in caroms with 10.

The Wave dominated the game from start to finish. Kingsborough scored the opening 15 points, and led 31-3 after 10 minutes of action. The visitors led 61-12 at the half, and doubled-up the Broncos in the third, outscoring them 26-13 in that period to take a commanding 87-25 advantage after three. The Wave continued to pour it on in the fourth, outscoring the hosts 30-2 to account for the 117-27 win.

Kingsborough connected on 51.5 percent of its attempts from the floor (51-99), while Bronx earned a 22 percent conversion rate (11-50). The Wave out-rebounded the Broncos 68-24, while also winning the turnover battle, committing just 11 miscues compared to 40 for Bronx.

The Broncos will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening, as Bronx will travel to the Brookhaven Gymnasium at the Ammerman Campus in Selden, NY to take on Suffolk County Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 8:00pm.
