Broncos drop CUNYAC clash to LaGuardia Red Hawks on Thursday in Flushing, NY

The Broncos' women's basketball team lost a CUNYAC game last night, falling to the Red Hawks of LaGuardia by a score of 79-31. The conference clash took place in Flushing, NY. With the loss, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-10 on the 2023-2024 campaign (0-4 CUNYAC), while the Red Hawks improved to 2-5 on the year (1-2 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for Bronx, Katherine Reyes scored a team-high 24 points, connecting on 10 of her 23 shot attempts in the process. She also added 11 rebounds while dishing two assists and compiling two steals. Susan Williamson finished with seven points and five rebounds, and Chani Calimese grabbed eight boards.

Pacing LaGuardia was Olithia Roach, as she posted a double-double with a game-high 27 points to go along with 24 boards. Her five steals also led all players. Moutiatou Djibring also registered a double-double, scoring 24 points while snatching a game-high 27 boards. Shemiah Sealey added 18 points, eight rebounds, and a game-high seven assists, and finally, Jasmin Gutierrez finished with 10 points, eight caroms, and six assists.

The Red Hawks dominated the contest from start to finish, owning a 20-7 lead after a quarter before taking a commanding 43-18 edge into the locker room at halftime. Laguardia continued its stellar play in the second half, outscoring the Broncos 36-13 over the final 20 minutes to account for the 48-point victory.

For the evening, the Red Hawks connected on 41.4 percent of their attempts from the floor (36-87), while the Broncos converted on just 11 of their 48 shot attempts (22.9 percent). LaGuardia held a commanding 73-32 edge on the glass, while also dishing 18 assists compared to just two for the visitors. The Red Hawks compiled 11 steals to Bronx's three, and the hosts won the turnover battle, committing 21 miscues, while the Broncos finished with 27.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will welcome Passaic County Community College to the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 5:00pm.
