Women's volleyball drops final three matches of 2023 campaign

The Broncos' women's volleyball team finished up its 2023 campaign this week, suffering a defeat to Fashion Institute of Technology (8-25, 13-25, 12-25) this past Thursday, and dropping a pair of CUNYAC matches to Queensborough (13-25, 12-25, 8-25) and Kingsborough (11-25, 14-25, 25-27) earlier this afternoon. With that output, Bronx finalized its season at 0-16 (0-8 CUNYAC). The Tigers improved to 11-9 with its victory, while the Tigers moved to 14-4 (7-0 CUNYAC), and the Wave upped its mark to 6-11 (3-5 CUNYAC).

In Thursday's defeat at FIT, the Broncos were paced by Liany Parrot who notched a pair of kills while also contributing two digs. Leslie Ferrer a pair of assists and two digs, as well.

The Tigers Nina De Neve's eight kills were a match-high. Mary-Margaret Griffiths recorded seven kills, hitting .600 in the process (7-1-10). She also registered three service aces in the victory. Charina Schildhouse put forth a fantastic effort, posting match-bests of 20 assists and seven service aces, and it was Kara Reid adding six service aces in the win.

Parrot and Abigail Cabrera registered a kill apiece in the Broncos' loss to Kingsborough. Kaylyn Radcliff's five digs were a team-high, and Keity Liberata and Parrot notched three digs apiece.

The Tigers were paced by Michelle Liu's match-high seven kills. Ashley Mateo and Tabreanna Mateo collected five kills apiece, with Mateo also piling four service aces. Isabel Torres' 14 assists were a match-high, and she also tied Mateo with four aces. Finally, it was Luey June Namoc contributing a match-high 10 digs in the victory.

In their final match of their season, the Broncos' Liberta's six kills were a team-best. She also added five digs and a pair of assists. Cabrera finished with four kills, a team-high 10 assists, and eight digs, and Ferrer and Parrot finished with 17 and 13 digs apiece. Ferrer also added three kills, while Parrot had two.

The Wave's Victoria Cook led all players with 10 and 17 assists. Aneesa Leka had a fine all-around match with seven kills, 13 digs, and five assists, and Jasmine Morris added 11 digs.

Bronx dropped the first two sets to Kingsborough before storming to lead most of the third set. Bronx held advantages of 8-4, 10-6, and 21-16, before the Wave rallied to tie the third set at 21-all. The squads then alternated the next four points, as Ruth Oscar notched a kill, followed by a Liberata service error. Kingsborough's Kyrah Allison then committed a service error, and that was followed by an attack error by Ferrer to square the set at 23-all.

The Broncos trailed 24-23 and 25-24, but fought off match-point twice. Then, with the set tied at 25, Parrot committed a service error, and Aneesa Leka registered a kill to end the match.

Although the 2023 season has come to a close for Bronx, the Broncos will now await word on possible CUNYAC, NJCAA Region XV, and NJCAA postseason awards. Keep it posted to BronxBroncos.com for all of the postseason accolade information for the Broncos!
