Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Broncos outdueled by the Wave 3-1 in CUNYAC showdown

The Broncos men's soccer team dropped a tough match on Thursday afternoon, falling to CUNYAC rival Kingsborough Community College by a score of 3-1. The match was played on the Wave's soccer pitch on campus. With the defeat, Bronx has now dropped three consecutive matches, slipping to 2-3 on the year, including a mark of 1-1 in conference play. Kingsborough improved to 2-3-2 on the year, including a 2-1 record in CUNYAC action.

Neither squad was able to get on the board in the opening session, though the Broncos did have a golden opportunity to score first when Jordy Leon was fouled in the box with 3:26 remaining in the session. The standout lined up for the uncontested penalty kick, but the shot sailed high and over the net, keeping the conference clash scoreless. Both clubs were still searching for their first tally as time expired on the opening half.

Finally, at 50:40 in, the Wave struck first when Donalson Alexis found the back of the net. After receiving a pass from Nick Cajamarca, Alexis slashed a shot on net that went off the hands of Chavez before trickling into the net to give Kingsborough a 1-0 edge. The Wave increased its advantage to 2-0 just 13:06 later when Stevens Antoine headed a ball home.

Trailing 2-0, Bronx sliced its deficit in half at the 65:38 mark when Jordy Leon scored on a header of his own to make it 2-1 in favor of Kingsborough. Later, at 78:36, the Wave would score a crucial goal to take a two goal cushion when Gdaly Baranovich found the net (from Cajamarca and Akin Small). That would be the final goal of the game on either side, as Kingsborough would register a 3-1 CUNYAC victory.

The Wave's Arturo Marquez picked up the victory in net, logging 90 minutes and yielding just the one goal while making six saves. His counterpart, the Broncos' Luis Chavez, also made six saves despite allowing three goals.

Kingsborough held a slight 19-16 edge in the shots category, and the Wave was also whistled for 13 fouls compared to 11 for Bronx.

The Broncos will return to action Saturday afternoon, as they'll play their first conference home match of the season when they welcome LaGuardia Community College to Ohio Field. The match is scheduled to take place at 1:00pm, weather-permitting.
