Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Herbert Gary, Taijay Good play well, but Broncos fall to Panthers 87-56 in CUNYAC action

The Broncos men's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC game on Tuesday evening, falling to the Panthers of BMCC by a score of 87-56. The game took place at the BMCC Gymnasium in Lower Manhattan. With the defeat, Bronx is now 0-10 on the 2022-2023 campaign (0-3 CUNYAC), while the Panthers improved to 4-4 and stayed unblemished in conference play at 3-0.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Herbert Gary put forth a strong effort, posting game-highs of 18 points (8-11 FG) and 11 rebounds. Taijay Good contributed 15 points, three rebounds, two dimes, and a pair of steals, and Michael Melhado added seven points and three rebounds.

Leading the way for BMCC in its win was Leverson Tulien, as he connected on six of his 11 attempts from the floor to finish a team-high 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds, three steals, and a pair of swatted shots. Daniel Laffitte also posted a double-double, netting 11 points while snatching 10 boards, and Amaziah Richberg finished with 10 points, a game-high five steals, and three boards.

The Broncos kept things close in the very early stages of this one, trailing just 10-7 in the opening 5:40. BMCC then put together a 28-6 run over the ensuing 8:16 to snatch a commanding 38-13 advantage. Bronx would finish the half strong, outscoring the Panthers 15-4 for the remainder of the half to close to within 14 (42-28) as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, they would never trail by any less than the aforementioned halftime deficit, as BMCC gradually built its lead as the second half progressed, running away with what turned into an easy 31-point triumph.

Both teams shot over 40 percent from the floor (Bronx 22-53, 41.5 percent, BMCC 36-89, 40.4 percent), but the Panthers dominated in most of the other columns. BMCC held a dominant 50-34 edge on the glass, while also registering 18 steals to Bronx's seven. The Panthers also took care of the basketball, committing just 16 turnovers while forcing 28 Broncos mistakes.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will travel to Bayside, NY to take on Queensborough Community College in another CUNYAC clash. Start-time at the Robert F. Kennedy Gymnasium is set for 7:30pm.
