Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Broncos can't establish offensive continuity in losses to Nassau and Kingsborough

The Broncos men's basketball team suffered a pair of defeats this week, losing to Nassau Community College in Garden City, NY by a score of 88-42 this past Tuesday, before falling to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College at Alumni Gymnasium by a score of 77-61. With those results, the Broncos are now 0-6 on the 2022-2023 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC).

In Bronx's loss to Nassau, the Broncos were paced by Enmanuel Garcia, as he scored a team-high 15 points while posting game-highs of 15 rebounds and two blocked shots. Ludwin Rosa contributed eight points while snatching two boards and tallying two steals.

Furnie Oden led the charge for the Lions in their victory, as he netted a game-high 16 points, connecting on four shots from downtown in the process. Donte Howard scored 12 points while tallying four assists, and it was Sean Walsh finalizing his evening with 10 points and three assists.

Against CUNYAC foe Kingsborough, Taijay Good posted game-highs of 19 points, five assists, and four steals, while also grabbing three rebounds. Rosa connected on three shots from downtown, finalizing his evening with 18 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals, and Herbert Gary put forth another hearty effort, connecting on seven of his 15 attempts from the floor to finish with 17 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.

For the Wave, Kingsborough was paced by Troy Graham and Tyrese Grant, as the two youngsters tied for the team-high of 13 points. Graham also snatched a team-best 11 boards, while Grant snatched six boards, piled five assists, and added three steals. Tabidi Abdelamaged and Bryan Blanding each scored 10 points in the victory as well.

In what was a very competitive first half, neither squad was able to build a lead greater than five points until 2:04 remaining in the session, when Good converted on a layup to give the Broncos a 36-29 advantage. The Wave finished the half strong, though, going on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 36-all as time expired on the opening stanza.

Kingsborough led 50-44 with 13 minutes left, but an 8-2 run by Bronx tied the game at 52 apiece. That run included a pair of converted free throws by Herbert, a made layup by Good, a drained layup by Herbert, and a made jumper by Rosa. Unfortunately for the Broncos, they fell ice cold from the field after that, sinking just three field goals in final 9:22 of regulation, as Kingsborough finished the game outscoring the host school 25-9 in solidifying the victory.

The Wave converted on 39.2 percent of its shots from the floor (29-74) while holding the Broncos to a 31.6 percent conversion rate (24-76). Kingsborough also held a commanding edge on the glass, grabbing 61 rebounds compared to 46 for Bronx. Neither team shot well from the charity stripe, as the Wave was able to still win the game by double digits despite missing a whopping 17 free throws (12-29). The Broncos converted on nine of their 18 shots from the line. Bronx did win the turnover battle, committing just 19 miscues compared to 22 for the visitors.

The Broncos will play one more game before the Thanksgiving holiday, as Bronx will travel to Selden, NY to take on Suffolk County Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 8:00pm.
