Broncos unable to keep up with Lions, fall to Nassau C.C. 69-41 in Garden City, NY

The Broncos women's basketball team suffered a loss on Tuesday evening, falling to the Lions of Nassau Community College by a score of 69-41. The game took place in Garden City, NY. With the loss, Bronx dipped to 0-5 on the 2022-2023 campaign, while the Lions stayed unblemished at 3-0.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week Shawnasia Ofaire put forth another solid effort, as she registered team-highs of 20 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Tatyana Graham added 11 points, and Ciara Shillingford finalized her evening with six points and eight boards.

For Nassau Community College, Samyah Allen posted game-highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds, while also collecting four assists. Ashley Vigliotti netted 16 points while snatching four boards, and Shyann Parker put together a solid all-around performance, scoring seven points, tallying a game-high five steals, grabbing four rebounds, and collecting four assists.

Three-point shooting, as well as free throw efficiency turned out to be primary deciding factors in this contest. The Broncos only attempted three shots from long range on the evening, unable to drain one, while the Lions connected on 10 of their 27 attempts from downtown. Additionally, Bronx was able to manage 34 free throw attempts, but was only able to connect on 17 (50 percent). Meanwhile, Nassau Community College attempted 13 freebees, draining eight (61.5 percent).

The Lions also dominated on the glass, snatching 51 boards to the Broncos' 32, and Nassau won the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues while forcing 31 mistakes for the visitors.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will welcome CUNYAC foe Kingsborough Community College to the Alumni Gym. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
