Bronx dominates Kingsborough 85-34 in CUNYAC action; Brianna Randolph scores game-high 32 points

The Broncos women's basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2022-2023 campaign last night, dominating the Wave of Kingsborough Community College in a CUNYAC game by a score of 85-34. The game took place at the Alumni Gym in the Bronx. With the triumph, the Broncos improved to 1-5 on the year (1-1 CUNYAC). The Wave lost their second straight (0-2 overall, 0-2 CUNYAC) to start the season.

In what was a must-win for Bronx, Brianna Randolph dominated on the evening, scoring a game-high 32 points while connecting on 14 of her 25 attempts from the floor. She also snatched eight rebounds while collecting seven steals. Reigning CUNYAC Player of the Week Shawnasia Ofaire scored 16 points, led all players with nine steals, grabbed five caroms, and added five assists, and Tatyana Graham finalized her evening with 12 points, eight rebounds, five steals, and two assists. Nyla Harris posted a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, and Ciara Shillingford contributed 11 boards.

Despite the loss for Kingsborough, the Wave was led by Hagar Elwan, as she finished with team-bests of 11 points and four steals. Victoria Cook added eight points and rebounds, and Celine Hodge contributed a game-high eight blocks to go along with a team-high 14 rebounds.

The conference contest stayed close through the first 16 minutes of the opening half, with Bronx holding on to a 22-18 advantage with 4:27 remaining in the second quarter. The Broncos closed out the quarter strong, though, outscoring the Wave 9-3 the rest of the session to take a 31-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. That aforementioned run included a converted layup and a trifecta by Randolph, a made layup by Treazure Diggins, and a drained jumper by Ofaire.

Once the second half began, the Broncos dominated, holding Kingsborough to just five converted field goals over the final 20 minutes, while also forcing 28 Wave miscues. Bronx outscored the Wave 54-13 in the second half.

For the evening, Bronx shot 33.6 percent from the floor (36-107) while holding Kingsborough to a 30.4 percent conversion rate (14-46). The Broncos dominated on the glass, snatching 66 rebounds compared to 43 for the visitors. Bronx also forced 50 turnovers while committing just 20, and the Broncos collected a whopping 35 steals as a team.

The Broncos will play one more game before the Thanksgiving holiday, as Bronx will travel to Selden, NY to take on Suffolk County Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
