Westchester uses strong first half to run away from Broncos, 5-1, at Barrett Field

The Broncos men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Vikings of Westchester Community College by a score of 5-1. The contest took place at Barrett Field in Valhalla, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to 2-4 on the 2022 season, while Westchester leaped over the .500 mark, improving to 6-5.

The match was dominated by Vikings standout Exon Umanzor, who found the back of the net three times on the afternoon. His first goal came just 69 seconds into the match, as he netted an unassisted goal to put Westchester up 1-0. 17:31 later, at 18:40 in, Umanzor struck again, catapulting the Vikings to a 2-0 advantage. Westchester increased its lead to 3-0 at the 27:21 mark when Kevin Vasquez took advantage of a beautiful pass from Adrian Tenezaca, blasting the ball into the net for the tally. Then, at the 33:23 mark of the opening session, Umanzor found the net again, completing the hat truck and putting the Vikings ahead 4-0. That score would hold up for the remainder of the first half, as Westchester took a four goal edge into the break.

In the second half, at 65:59 in, Alejandro Martinez scored to make it 5-0 (from Romaine Swaby). The Broncos were able to get on the board in the latter stages of the contest, as Anthony Arevalo notched an unassisted goal at 81:25.

Westchester netminder Nicholas Nunez got the victory, logging 45 minutes and not allowing a goal while stopping three shots. His second half replacement, Israel Pardo, allowing one goal and made one save in 45 minutes. Bronx goaltender Luis Chavez made eight saves despite allowing the five goals.

The Vikings held a 21-8 edge in the shots category.
