Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Broncos put forth valiant effort in home finale, but fall to Monroe-Bronx in straight sets

The Broncos women's volleyball team fell in three sets to the Express of Monroe College-Bronx on Wednesday evening, as the Express won by scores of 25-13, 25-6, and 25-20. The match took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the loss, the Broncos slipped to 0-17 on the 2022 campaign, while Monroe-Bronx improved to 15-1.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Arian Revells tied for the match-high of seven digs, while also posting team-highs of three service aces and two kills. Zulema Da La Cruz contributed three digs, two service aces, and a kill, as well.

Pacing the Express was Laura Pinales, as she hit .333 on the evening and tied for the match-high of five kills. She also added five service aces and a dig, as well. Lesly Almonte contributed five kills, and Yorlennis Nunez tallied match-highs of 13 assists and nine service aces. Finally, it was Emely Diaz finishing with seven digs.

After Monroe-Bronx took a commanding 2-0 lead in sets, the Broncos made set number three interesting by jumping out ahead by a score of 5-1. The Express appeared to take back control of the set later, as with the match tied at 13, Monroe-Bronx scored six consecutive points to snatch a commanding 19-13 lead. Still, the Broncos refused to go quietly.

Bronx went on a 7-3 run from there to close to within two points (22-20) in the third set, but the Express closed out strong, registering three straight points to grab the victory in the set, and essentially, the match.

The Broncos will wrap up their 2022 campaign on Saturday afternoon, as Bronx will travel to Falcon Hall in Poughkeepsie, NY to battle Dutchess Community College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 12:00pm.
