Broncos Lose Tough Defensive Battle, 72-64

BRONX, NY - The Broncos were defeated by Suffolk at home Tuesday night, 72-64.

The Tuesday night contest was a close one throughout as the Broncos lost by a narrow margin. The Sharks of Suffolk got out to a quick 6-0 lead but the Broncos responded by going on a 10-0 run of their own early on in the first half. Bronx lead by six with 13 minutes remaining in the first half but that would be as large of a lead they would hold. The Broncos were the more efficient team in the first half despite trailing the sharks by eight points at the break. Both teams were dreadful from the field, Bronx shooting 30% while Suffolk shot 25%. The difference being the free throw attempts. Suffolk attempted 23 free throws in the first half to the Broncos nine attempts.

Freshman Blaise Atanga provided a nice spark off the bench to keep the Broncos within striking distance in the second half. The Bronx native posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Atanga showed his defensive prowess by snagging five steals and posting three blocks. Freshman guard Michael Morgan lead the Broncos in scoring with 20 points while going 6-7 from the free throw line.

The Broncos matched the Sharks scoring in the second half but the deficit proved to be to much as they would go on to lose by eight points. The Sharks dominated Bronx in 2nd chance points, 20-11. The free throw line ended up being the deciding factor with Suffolk sinking 23-34 from the line as the Broncos only managed 16-21.

With the narrow victory, Suffolk improves to 4-0 while the Broncos drop to 2-4(1-1) on the season. Bronx will be back in action, Tuesday November 30th, as they take on Dutchess Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
