Ashley Soto registers game-high 27 points in Broncos 76-45 loss to CUNYAC foe Kingsborough

The Broncos women's basketball team put forth a solid effort in this evening's game, but ultimately fell short, losing a CUNYAC contest to the Wave of Kingsborough by a score of 76-45. The game took place at the Alumni Gym. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 0-14 on the 2019-2020 campaign (0-6 CUNYAC). Kingsborough improved to a solid mark of 8-2 overall, and 4-1 in conference action.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Ashley Soto was strong all throughout the evening, as she netted a game-high 27 points. Additionally, she snatched five boards, swatted a pair of shots, and added two steals. Jada Parker contributed seven points and tied for the team-high of seven rebounds, while also piling a Broncos-high six assists. Sophia Ridley finalized her evening with five points and seven caroms.

The Broncos truly gave a hearty effort this evening despite suffering the conference defeat. Bronx held an 8-7 lead in the early stages of the game, but Kingsborough finished the quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 20-12 advantage after 10 minutes of play.

Soto diligently tried to keep the Broncos in the game during the second quarter, scoring six consecutive points over a span of 3:18 to keep Bronx trailing by just seven points (27-20) with 4:51 remaining in the half. The Wave would register 11 of their final 16 points scored by the teams in the quarter, and Kingsborough grabbed a semi-commanding 38-25 lead at the half.

Bronx was only able to muster 10 points in each of the third and fourth quarters, as the Broncos played with just four players for the final 15:07 of regulation after Kayla Smith and Natalie Encarnacion fouled out. Kingsborough gradually built its lead after that, eventually winning the game by 31.

There were multiple contributors in this one for the Wave, as Kingsborough was paced by Tiffany Bogle, as she posted game-highs of 26 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals. She also added three assists, as well. Keyanna Elrington scored 17 points while snatching 14 rebounds, and Magdalena Kupras netted 13 points while piling 10 dimes. Kinga Kupras showed solid versatility, as well, scoring 10 points, snatching eight rebounds, registering seven assists, two steals, and one block.

The Wave drained 43.2 percent of its shots on the evening (32-74), while Bronx hit on just 30.9 of its attempts (17-55). Kingsborough held a dominant 53-33 edge in the rebounding department, while also collecting a whopping 24 assists to the Broncos nine. The Wave also won the turnover battle, committing just 13 miscues compared to 19 for Bronx.

Bronx will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos will take to the road to face SUNY-Orange in Middletown, NY. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
