Ashley Soto scores career-high 31 points in Bronx's 102-50 defeat to Westchester Community College

The Broncos women's basketball team suffered a road loss this evening, falling to Westchester Community College by a score of 102-50. The game took place at the Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, NY. With the loss, Bronx slipped to 0-15 on the 2019-2020 campaign, while Westchester evened its record at 8-8.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Ashley Soto was sensational, as she recorded a career-high 31 points, while also grabbing seven rebounds, and tallying four steals. The standout connected on 12 of her 26 attempts from the floor (46.1 percent). She also drilled 70 percent of her free throw shots, as well (7-10). Jada Parker contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, as well.

In the victory for the Vikings, Westchester had three players score 25 points or more, including Donjeta Prelvukaj, as she scored a game-high 30 points, connecting on seven shots from downtown in the process. She also tallied a game-high six steals, to go along with six assists, and three rebounds. Jada Tom also knocked down seven shots from long range finishing with 26 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three steals, and Jaline Ruiz finalized her evening with 25 points, a game-high 12 assists, 12 rebounds, and two steals.

The Vikings led the contest by 14 points after a quarter, and held a sizable 60-25 edge at the half. Westchester continued to build its lead in the third, out-scoring Bronx 26-11 in that session to take an 86-36 advantage, before eventually winning the game by 52.

Westchester drained 37 of its 78 attempts from the floor (47.4 percent), while the Broncos struggled outside Soto's brilliance. As a team, Bronx hit on just 20 of 62 attempts all evening (32.3 percent). The Vikings connected on 16 three-point shots, while Bronx was 0-for-11 on its launches from beyond-the-arc. Westchester held a respectable 48-40 edge in the rebounding department, while also piling 28 assists to five for the Broncos. Bronx committed 28 turnovers, while the Vikings committed just 16 miscues.

Bronx will return to action tomorrow evening, as the Broncos will welcome SUNY Ulster to the Alumni Gym. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 5:00pm.
