Behind De Los Santos and Cedeno, Broncos defeat Kingsborough 5-3 in NJCAA Division III Region XV Tournament contest

The Broncos' baseball team picked up a victory in its final game at Ohio Field for the 2019 season, defeating CUNYAC foe Kingsborough in an NJCAA Division III Region XV Tournament game by a score of 5-3. With the triumph, Bronx improved to 16-16 on the season, while the Wave dipped to 13-20.

Standout pitcher Esteban De Los Santos, who came in with a perfect 6-0 record on the hill for the Broncos, stayed unblemished on the season, as he earned the victory by turning in 7.1 innings, allowing just three runs (all earned) on eight hits while issuing three walks and striking out five. Juan Vasquez was masterful in earning the save for Bronx, as he tossed the final 1.2 frames, not allowing a run or a hit while walking two and striking out two.

Jimmy Barsch suffered the loss for Kingsborough, as he pitched 5.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking six and striking out one.

The Broncos scored the game's first run in the bottom of the second inning when Steven Santana recorded a double to chase home Hector Camacho. Bronx tacked on another run in the bottom half of the third when Adrian Urena would record a RBI single to score Michael Mateo, giving the Broncos a 2-0 advantage.

Kingsborough got on the board in the top of the fourth thanks to Peter Lombardo's sacrifice fly. That cut Bronx's lead in half at 2-1.
Christian Cedeno's RBI single to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning put the Broncos ahead by a score of 3-1, but the Wave's Jaycob Montero would record a RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning to pull Kingsborough back to within a run.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Urena would record another RBI single to push Bronx ahead by a score of 4-2. After each team scored a run in the eighth, the Wave has unable to push across anything in the ninth, as the Broncos closed-out a very impressive two-run win.

Offensively for the Broncos in their victory, Cedeno was stellar, going 4-for-4 with a homerun, three singles, a run scored, a walk, a stolen base, and two RBI. Urena finished his afternoon 2-for-4 with two singles, two RBI, and three stolen bases, and Ayala doubled, walked, and scored a run.

Despite the loss for the Wave, Walfi Regalado doubled, singled, and scored a run, Montero tripled and drove in a run, and Lombardo singled twice, picked up a RBI, and was hit by a pitch.

The Broncos will return to action on Saturday morning, as they'll face Nassau at Eastport South Manor Athletic Complex in Manorville, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00am.
