Game Recap: Baseball |

Broncos get shut out for first time this season, falling 7-0 to Sharks; Bronx's losing skid now at three games

The Broncos' baseball team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday afternoon, losing to the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College by a score of 7-0. With the loss, Bronx dropped its third straight game, falling to 10-8 on the year. The Sharks won their fourth in a row with the triumph, improving to a mark of 16-5.

For the Broncos, it was their first time being shutout this season. In every other game during the 2019 campaign, Bronx had scored at least two runs. On the flip side, Suffolk recorded its fifth shutout of the season.

In today's game, neither team was able to score until the bottom of the fourth inning, when the Sharks would light up the scoreboard three times to grab a lead. Those three aforementioned runs were accounted for thanks to a RBI fielder's choice hit into by Gregory Almonte, and a two-RBI double by Jacob Ford.

Suffolk would add to its advantage in the sixth, plating four more runs to catapult to a commanding 7-0 edge. Ford's RBI two-bagger made it 4-0 Sharks, and a Robert Rodriguez two-RBI double made it 6-0 Sharks. Suffolk's seventh and final run of the afternoon came via an error committed by Bronx.

Esteban De Los Santos started the game for the Broncos and received a no decision, as he hurled two scoreless innings, yielding one hit and whiffing a batter. Alexander Pimentel pitched the final six, and he suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on four hits while walking three, hitting two, and striking out five.

Daniel Deckert recorded the victory by hurling seven brilliant frames, allowing no runs and yielding five hits while walking a batter and striking out 11. David Heller pitched the final two scoreless innings, not allowing a hit, walking one batter, and striking out four.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Justin Nunez and Adrian Urena each singled twice apiece.

In the victory for Suffolk, Ford doubled twice, scored a run, and drove in three. Rodriguez doubled, singled, dented home plate once, was hit by a pitch, and drove in two.

Bronx will look to get back in the win column tomorrow afternoon, as the Broncos will host Ulster County Community College. Start-time at Ohio Field is scheduled for 4:00pm.
