Game Recap: Baseball |

Broncos use 11 hits, including three homeruns and three doubles, to dispatch Express 10-7 at Roberto Clemente State Park

The Broncos recorded their eighth consecutive victory on Friday, turning back Monroe-Bronx by a score of 10-7. The game took place at Roberto Clemente State Park. With the victory, the Broncos improved to a mark of 10-5 on the season, while the Express continued to struggle, dipping to 3-17 on the 2019 campaign.

After neither team was able to push across a run in the opening two innings, the Broncos broke through for three runs in the top of the third. Steven Santana connected on a homerun to left field, and later in the frame, Hector Camacho would drive in a run with a double to left to make it 2-0 Bronx. The Broncos capped their scoring for the inning when Adrian Urena would reach base via an error, allowing Camacho to score.

The Express rallied back for three runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game at three apiece. Jesus Tejada recorded two RBI with a single up the middle, and later, A.J. Torres would drive in the tying run with a groundout to second base. After three innings of play, the game was knotted at three.

After the Broncos failed to score in the top of the fourth, Monroe-Bronx would take a 4-3 lead in the bottom half when Emanuel Veras would hit a homerun to center.

Bronx would retake the lead in the top of the fifth. The go-ahead run would be driven in by Quincy Williams, as he would draw a walk with the bases load to push the Broncos ahead by a score of 5-4. That aforementioned score would remain the same until the top of the seventh when Williams would add to Bronx's lead with an RBI double to make it 6-4 Broncos.

The Express would plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at six apiece, but the Broncos would answer in the eighth inning, denting home plate four times (thanks to a Camacho RBI double, a two-run homerun by Urena, and a solo homer by Michael Mateo) to catapult ahead by a score of 10-6. Bronx would go on to win the game by a 10-7 final.

Esteban De Los Santos picked up the victory for the Broncos in relief, as he tossed four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits while walking one and striking out a pair. Starter Matthew Rivera struggled on the afternoon, as he hurled five innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits while hitting three batters, walking two, and striking out three.

Taking the loss for Monroe-Bronx was Perez, as he logged 2.2 innings of work, allowing four runs (all earned) on four hits while balking once and striking out a batter.

Offensively for the Broncos, Hector Camacho finished with three hits, including two doubles. He also scored three times, drove in a pair, and stole a base. The Broncos also connected on three homeruns on the afternoon, with Urena, Mateo, and Santana all going yard.

Despite the loss for the Express, Tejada doubled, singled three times, scored a run, walked, and drove in four. Devon Marrero doubled, singled twice, was hit by a pitch, and scored three runs. Veras hit a homerun, singled, and stole two bases.

Bronx will return to action tomorrow, as the Broncos will wrap-up their season series with Monroe-Bronx by playing the Express in a doubleheader at Ohio Field. Start-times are scheduled for 12:00pm and 3:30pm.
