Make it six consecutive victories for the Broncos, as Bronx turned back the Panthers of BMCC this afternoon by a score of 13-3 (five innings) at Ohio Field. With the triumph, the Broncos improved to 9-5 overall (6-0 CUNYAC), while BMCC slipped to 1-8 on the year (1-5 in league action).
With the triumph, Bronx now needs just one victory over BMCC during this Sunday's doubleheader to clinch a spot in the 2019 CUNYAC title game. If the Broncos down the Panthers once this Sunday, they'll meet Kingsborough for the championship on May 1 at MCU Park.
Bronx, trailing 1-0 after two and a half innings of pay, erupted for 13 runs in the bottom of the third. The Broncos sent 17 men to the plate in the inning, collecting eight hits, drawing two walks, and getting hit by a pair of pitches. The Panthers also committed four errors in the inning, as well.
The Panthers, trailing by 12, tried valiantly to keep the game alive, plating a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. After Bronx failed to score in the bottom of the frame, BMCC wasn't able to push across at least one run in the top of the fifth, therefore ending the game via the 10-run mercy rule.
Alexander Pimentel earned the victory for the Broncos, improving his record to 2-0 on the year. He hurled a complete game (five innings) allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits while issuing one walk and whiffing five. His counterpart, Randy Polanco, took the loss, allowing eight runs (seven earned) and six hits while walking two, hitting a batter, and striking out two in a pair of innings logged.
Offensively for Bronx,
Justin Nunez continued his recent stellar play (now 11 for his last 21), as he collected a pair of hits including a double. He also scored a pair of runs, drove in four, stole two bases, and walked once.
Steven Santana went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base, and
Darlin Liriano singled twice, dented home place a pair of times, drove in a run, stole a base, and walked.
Despite the loss for the Panthers, Aidan Blum singled three times, scored a run, and stole a base.
The Broncos will return to action on Friday, as they'll travel to Roberto Clemente State Park for a game against the Express of Monroe-Bronx. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
