Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bronx falls to Hostos 103-87 on Senior Night at Alumni Gym; Broncos and Caimans set to meet on Wednesday in CUNYAC semifinals

The Broncos' men's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game, falling to the Caimans of Hostos by a score of 103-87 at the Alumni Gymnasium. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to 9-15 on the 2018-2019 season, including a mark of 4-4 in conference play. Hostos improved to 14-10 on the year, and 6-2 in conference action.

Prior to this evening's clash, the Bronx Department of Athletics honored seniors Hector Montano and Elijah Lopez for their outstanding service to the men's basketball program. Both student-athletes were presented with commemorative picture frames (featuring an action photo).

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Bronx was paced by Tilquan Rucker's masterful performance, as the standout connected on five shots from beyond-the-arc and all 11 of his attempts from the charity stripe before finishing with 38 points. He also snatched 10 rebounds (seven on the offensive side) while tallying five steals.

Malik Hamilton scored 15 points and collected three steals, and Montano posted yet another double-double scoring 10 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Rickardo Byfield hit all five of his shots to finish with 10 points. He also snatched five rebounds, as well.

Tonight's result means that the Broncos and Caimans will meet once again on Wednesday evening, as the two teams will clash in the semifinals of the 2018-2019 CUNYAC Community College Men's Basketball Tournament. The game will take place at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, with a start-time of either 6:00pm or 8:00pm.

Prior to the aforementioned CUNYAC postseason battle, the Broncos will play a final tuneup contest, as Bronx will take to the road to battle Mitchell JV on Saturday afternoon. Tip off is slated for 3:30pm.
