Broncos' season comes to an end with 71-60 loss to Nassau in quarterfinal round of NJCAA Division III Region XV Tournament

The Broncos' 2018-2019 season came to an end on Tuesday evening, as Bronx felt to the Lions of Nassau by a score of 71-60 in the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Divison III Region XV Tournament. With the defeat, the Broncos finalized their season with seven consecutive losses, wrapping-up at 9-19. The Lions improved to 23-8, advancing to the Region XV semifinals.

Despite the loss for Bronx, NJCAA First Team All-Star Tilquan Rucker did everything he could to keep the Broncos in this one, as he netted a game-high 26 points while connecting on nine of his 20 shots from the floor. He also snatched five rebounds and added three steals. Rickardo Byfield posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and snatching 12 boards (seven on the offensive side). Malik Hamilton finished with 12 points, four rebounds, a team-high four assists and a game-high four steals, and Hector Montano wrapped-up his Broncos career with a seven-point, 17 rebound performance.

In the victory for Nassau, two players would post double-doubles, including Darius Young, as he scored 16 points and snatched a team-high 14 rebounds while adding five assists. Stephen Moncrieffe recorded 16 points while snatching 10 rebounds, and Matthew Trepeta added 12 points (4-4 FT) and a game-high seven assists. Cheyenne Nettleton finished with 15.

The Lions connected on 39 percent of their shots from the floor (23-59) compared to a 32.8 percent conversion rate for Bronx (22-67). Bronx held a slight edge in the rebounding department, snatching 43 caroms to Nassau's 40. The Lions won the turnover battle, committing 13 miscues while forcing 15 Broncos errors. Nassau moved the ball well, tallying 17 assists to Bronx's eight. Both teams swatted three shots apiece, as well.

With progress made by the team this season, and only two players set to graduate, the Broncos would be primed to make another run at CUNYAC and NJCAA Division III Region XV championships when the 2019-2020 campaign tips-off in early November!
