Broncos drop season opener to UConn-Avery Point, 91-86; Rucker scores 39 despite the loss

The Broncos started their 2019-2020 campaign Saturday afternoon with a loss, as Bronx fell to the Points of UConn-Avery Point by a score of 91-86. Bronx has now dropped two consecutive season openers.

Despite the loss, sophomore sensation Tilquan Rucker put forth an incredible effort, as he connected on 15 of his 27 attempts from the floor to finalize his afternoon with 39 points. That aforementioned point total was the fourth-highest individual scoring performance for the 5'7 guard from the Bronx. Additionally, he contributed four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Malik Hamilton posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds, and veteran William Paradise netted 14 while snatching three boards and contributing three steals.

Bronx struggled from the free throw line and from downtown in the loss. The Broncos connected on just four of their 15 attempts from three-point territory (26.7 percent). Bronx also misfired on 11 of its 27 shots from the charity stripe (59.3 percent).

The Broncos will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening, as Bronx will welcome Hostos Community College to the Alumni Gym. The game will serve as the home opener for the Broncos, with start time scheduled for 7:00pm.
