Baseball races out to 8-2 lead after six innings, holds on to defeat Nassau 8-6 on Thursday afternoon

The Broncos returned to action on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Lions of Nassau Community College by a score of 8-6 in a game that took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the victory – the Broncos earned a split of the season series with Nassau, as both teams won two contests apiece. Bronx improved to 16-11 on the season with the triumph.

Bronx trailed 2-0, but tied the game in the bottom of the fourth with a pair of runs. In the bottom of the sixth, the Broncos would plate four runs to build a commanding 8-2 lead. Nassau wouldn't quit, though, adding a run in the top of the eighth and making a strong push in the top of the ninth. The Lions would score three runs in the final frame, but the Broncos were able to hold Nassau in check after that, as the Bronx held on for the two-run victory.

Alexander Pimentel got the start for the Broncos and pitched very well, tossing six innings and earning the victory, allowing just three unearned runs on six hits while issuing one free pass and striking out seven. Aaron Bonilla Suarez hurled the final two frames, allowing three unearned runs on two hits while striking out a batter.

Raudy Alberto Acosta collected three hits for Bronx on Thursday, smacking a double and recording two singles while scoring a run and driving in four. Carlos Rivera Ayala added a two-bagger and a single while scoring a pair of runs, driving in one, and walking once. Raynel Cabrera tripled and singled, and Derek Galvez added a double, scored two runs, and walked.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday, May 1, as Bronx will take on the Borough of Manhattan Community College in a single CUNYAC game. The game will take place at Ohio Field, and first pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
