Box Score

The Broncos returned to action on Saturday afternoon looking to earn a split with Suffolk County Community College, but the Sharks has alternate plans, defeating the Bronx by a score of 19-9 in a single game that took place at the PAL Complex in Holtsville, NY. With the loss, the Broncos dipped to 14-10 on the 2018 campaign, while Suffolk moved to 17 games over .500, at 23-6.

Bronx - which once trailed 7-0 after two innings of play - sliced Suffolk's advantage to just two runs by scoring five times in the top of the fourth. Suffolk essentially put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fourth, answering back with another seven runs to catapult ahead by a huge margin of 14-5. The Sharks would go on to win the game via the mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ariel Irving Lora turned in a rare ineffective performance in getting the start for Bronx today, as he lasted just one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs (all earned) on seven hits while walking three. Reliever Kevin Almonte didn't fare much better, as he was only able to record five outs and allowed three earned runs on two hits while issuing a pair of free passes and whiffing two. In all, five Broncos pitchers combined to allow 19 runs, 14 hits, and 15 walks in what became a rare long day for the Bronx in an otherwise successful season up to this point.

Despite the loss, the Bronx' offense continued to roll, as the Broncos pounded out nine hits and drew four walks, culminating in nine total runs. The Bronx also smashed three round-trippers on the afternoon – one from
Jeffrey Almanzar, another from Derek Galvez – and a shot from Carlos Rivera Ayala. Almanzar knocked in three runs on the day, while Galvez also doubled and scored a pair of runs, and Rivera Ayala scored two runs and drove in two.

Bronx will return to action on Sunday afternoon, as the Broncos will host Nassau Community College. The game takes place at Ohio Field, and first pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
