Broncos continue offensive fireworks with 13-7 victory over the Express of Monroe College-Bronx on Thursday

The Bronx Community College baseball team won its sixth consecutive game on Thursday afternoon, defeating the Express of Monroe College-Bronx by a score of 12-2. The game was finally completed after being halted back on April 7 in the bottom of the fifth inning due to darkness. With the victory, the Broncos have won six consecutive games – and boast a record of 10-6 on the 2018 campaign.

The Broncos jumped all over Express starter Gilberto Rosario, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning to grab a commanding lead.
Raudy Alberto Acosta's sacrifice fly accounted for the first run, and Carlos Rivera Ayala's RBI single through the right side brought home his team's second run. Emmanuel Frias later scored on a throwing error by the opposition's catcher, and Kevin Almonte would pick up a RBI by drawing a walk. Jeffrey Almanzar would also single home a pair in the frame, and that would cap the scoring for the top of the first.

Monroe College-Bronx would score a run in the bottom half of the inning and another in the bottom of the second to make it 6-2 Broncos following two innings of play.

Both teams failed to score a run in the third inning, but the Broncos would add two more runs in the top of the fourth to catapult ahead by a score of 8-2, but the Express would score three runs in the bottom of the inning to slice Bronx Community College's advantage to two runs at 8-5.

Monroe College-Bronx player Julian Ovalles-Garcia drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fourth, and moved to second when Edwin Veras was hit by a pitch. After Ovalles-Garcia was caught stealing third, Alvin Vasquez brought Veras home with an RBI double to slice the Express' deficit to 8-3, before Vasquez advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Leandro Rodriguez's fielder's choice to make it 8-4. Harold Valdez would record an RBI single, as Monroe College-Bronx trailed the Broncos 8-5 after five complete innings of play.

Bronx Community College would push across five more runs over the final four frames while holding the Express to just two.

Offensively for the Broncos, Frias recorded three hits, including a double and two singles. He also scored four runs and stole two bases, as well.
Steven Santana doubled and scored a run, and Carlos Rivera singled twice, stole three bases, scored a run, drove home two, and walked once. Almanzar recorded two singles, stole a base, scored a run, drove home two, and drew a walk.

For the Express, Hilario led the Express at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a home run, run scored and RBI, while Valdez and Ovalles-Garcia also tallied multiple hits for the Express, with Valdez going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Ovalles-Garcia going 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored.


Jesse Castillo hurled three innings for the Broncos, allowing three earned runs and three hits while issuing one free pass and striking out three. Alexander Pimentel struggled in relief, pitching one and two-thirds innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits while striking out two, and Derek Galvez tossed four and one-third innings, allowing just two earned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out six.
