The Bronx Community College baseball team dropped a non-conference contest on Thursday afternoon, falling to the Lions of Nassau Community College by a score of 8-0 at Molloy College Field in Garden City, NY. With the defeat, the Broncos dipped to a record of 3-5 on the 2018 season, while the Lions improved their mark to 2-4.
Nassau Community College plated a run in the bottom of the first inning, and then broke the game open early by denting the dish six times in the bottom half of the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 advantage after two innings of play. The Lions would add one more run in the fourth inning, and the Broncos would only manage five hits on the day (no runs) as Nassau Community College rolled to an easy victory.
With the loss, Bronx Community College was shutout for the first time this season. The Broncos' five singles came courtesy of Steven Santana, Kevin Almonte, Raudy Alberto Acosta, Raynel Cabrera, and Christian Cedeno
The Broncos did get some solid relief pitching after starter Michael Russell exited the game. Russell struggled mightily with his command, as he allowed seven runs (six earned) while issuing eight free passes, allowing two hits, and striking out one. Relievers Jesse Castillo, Derek Galvez, and Jeffrey Almanzar combined for four and one-third innings of solid relief, combining to allow just one unearned run and no hits while walking four and striking out four.
Bronx Community College will return to action tomorrow, as the Broncos will take on Queensborough Community College in a CUNYAC game. The contest will serve as a rematch of Tuesday's thrilling game, which was won by the Broncos, 10-7. First pitch for tomorrow's game at Ohio Field is scheduled for 1:00pm.
