The Bronx Community College baseball team suffered a pair of defeats on Sunday afternoon, falling to Middlesex County College by scores of 7-6 and 13-6. The games took place in Edison, New Jersey. With the losses, the Broncos dipped to a mark of 2-4 on the 2018 campaign.

In the first game of the day, Bronx Community College trailed by a score of 4-1 after two innings of play – and 5-2 after four complete frames. The Broncos would then plate three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the contest at five apiece. Later – with the score knotted at six apiece in the eighth, the Blue Colts notched a run in the bottom half of the frame to catapult ahead by a score of 7-6. That would prove to be the game-winning run as Middlesex advanced for the game one triumph.

Despite the loss for the Broncos in the opener,
Emmanuel Frias recorded a pair of hits including a homerun. He also drove in three runs in the game, as well. Kevin Almonte recorded a double and a pair of singles while denting home plate once and driving in a run, and Jeffrey Almanzar singled three times and scored a run. Derek Galvez and Raudy Alberto Acosta both recorded a double in a losing effort.

On the mound,
Aaron Bonilla Suarez took the loss for Bronx Community College, hurling two-thirds of an inning and allowing one run (not earned) while walking a better. The original start for the Broncos – Alexander Pimentel – pitched six innings, allowing six runs (three earned) and six hits while whiffing three batters and issuing one free pass.

Bronx Community College appeared to be in prime position to earn a split of the doubleheader, leading game two by a score of 5-0 after two and a half innings of play. However, the Blue Colts would push across a run in the bottom of the third, and then score a whopping 11 times in the bottom of the fourth to grab a commanding 12-5 edge after four frames. Middlesex County College would ride the momentum of the huge bottom of the fourth inning, eventually winning the game 13-6 and earning a sweep of the afternoon's doubleheader.

At the dish for the Broncos in game two,
Michael Mateo reached base three times, homering and walking twice while scoring a pair of runs and driving in one. Carlos Rivera Ayala recorded a pair of hits including a double and a single in four trips to the plate. He also scored a run, as well. Kevin Almonte went 1-for-5 in game two, but his single drove home a pair of Broncos.

The Broncos' pitchers struggled mightily in the second contest. Bonilla – who earned a tough loss in game one when he allowed an unearned run that proved to be the difference – did not have it in game two, as he logged three innings and allowed four runs (three earned) while giving up five hits and walking one. He also struck out three.
Kevin Gerson allowed four runs (all earned) on four hits while failing to record an out, and Ariel Irving Lora pitched two-thirds of a frame, allowing four runs (none earned) while giving up two hits and issuing two free passes.

Bronx Community College will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as they travel to Garden City, NY for the first of four non-conference games against Nassau Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00pm.
