After capping off a 12-10 season with a victory in the CUNYAC Championship, several Broncos were honored with regional awards.
Edwin Hidalgo,
Francisco Ogando,
Andres Otero Jr., and
Cristian Disla left it all on the field this season, and the voters noticed, naming each of them to the 1
st Team All-Region.
Catcher
Edwin Hidalgo placed 4
th in Player of the Year voting after a stellar season. The 2
nd year player tallied 27 hits with a .380 average while leading the team in steals.
Freshman phenom
Francisco Ogando led the team in nearly every offensive category. The shortstop racked up 29 hits, 30 RBI, 6 homeruns, and 25 runs while hitting .397 on the season.
Otero Jr. was another problem for opposing pitchers to deal with this season. The 3
rd baseman hit an outstanding .386, with limited plate appearances he still managed to knock 17 base hits.
Leadoff man
Cristian Disla earned a spot on the team by batting .360, with 18 hits, 17 RBI, and 27 walks for a team high on-base percentage of .578.
Right fielder
Yasser Mendez and starting pitcher
Ruben Gomez were announced as members of the 2
nd team All-Region. Mendez finished 2
nd on the team with 21 RBI while Gomez led the pitching rotation with 39 strikeouts.
Centerfielder
Justin Soto was named to the Gold Glove All-Defensive team after recording 47 putouts with a fielding percentage of .922.
Next up the Broncos will face the Lions of Nassau County in Round 1 of the Region 15 tournament that takes place this Thursday at 7 pm in Farmingdale, NY. BCC went 1-3 against the Lions this season, with two of the games extended into extra innings. This is a double elimination tournament with the winner earning a spot in the NJCAA College World Series. The other matchup features the Sharks of Suffolk County taking on the Queensborough Tigers.
