Box Score 2 April 6, 2015 – Bronx, NY
The Broncos split games in a doubleheader against the Sharks of Suffolk County. After being pummeled in the first game 9-0, head coach
Adolfo De Jesus rallied the team and they came out swinging to win the second game 3-2.
They were heavily outplayed during the first half of the doubleheader, managing only 3 hits while striking out 15 times. Despite their poor performance in earlier in the day, the Broncos showed their resiliency as they outlasted their opponents in a tough regional matchup. In the first inning
Yasser Mendez belted a 3-run shot over the right-center field wall to give the Bronx the early lead. BCC kept this lead with the absolutely phenomenal pitching from
Lutty Santiago. The 2
nd year player gave up just 4 hits and 2 runs (0 earned) while striking out 8, in a complete game performance. The Sharks kept within striking distance the entire way. With a man on first in the final inning, players and fans were watching anxiously, but
Juan Melendez sealed the victory on the last play by throwing out the runner as he attempted to steal 2
nd base.
Though they have shown their ability to produce runs at times, strong pitching continues to be essential to win as the season has progressed. Nearing the midway point in the season, they remain a game under .500 at 4-5.
The men's baseball team returns to action today at 3:30 when they finish of their season series against Suffolk County. The Broncos will be back at home tomorrow to take on regional foe Nassau Community College. Tomorrow's game will start 4pm, if weather cooperates. Stay tuned for updates.
