Box Score The Bronx Community College Baseball team is your 2015 CUNYAC Champions! The Broncos won a hard fought 4-3 thriller against Kingsborough at MCU Park in Coney Island, which was a rematch of last year's Championship. The title is the first for Bronx since 2011, coming after 3 straight game appearences.

Ruben Gomez got the start for the Broncos against Kingsborough's Joseph Burgund, a pitcher who defeated the Broncos in their CUNYAC opener earlier this season.  Bronx got on the board right away after drawing four walks and getting a big 2-run hit from Yasser Mendez to jump out to a 3-0 first inning lead. Gomez would pitch four shutout innings before Kingsborough scored 2 runs in the 5th to put the Wave within 1 run. Bergund would settle down for KCC, not allowing a hit to the Broncos after the 2nd inning.

In the 7th, second-year player Lutty Santiago came on in relief of Gomez to start the inning.  With a man on 3rd, Santiago was able to force KCC cleanup hitter Nicholas Manzione to ground to third as Gregory Perdomo made a great play to nail the runner coming home and preserve the slim lead. In the 9th, the Broncos had the Wave down to their last strike, but a base hit by Kingsborough's Derek Jentz with a runner on second base plated the tying run and the game was knotted at 3.

Elvis Hernandez led off the bottom of the 9th with a booming double for his first hit of the game. The Broncos would load the bases before a double play, left BCC with two outs. Bronx would reload the bases for shortstop Francisco Ogando who beat out a hard hit infield single to bring home the game-winning run and crown the Broncos the CUNYAC Champs. Francisco would be named MVP for the game with 2 RBI including the game winner.

The Broncos finished an outstanding CUNYAC season going 10-2 in the regular season and winning the conference title. The team returns to action next Thursday, May 7th, at Farmingdale State University as the #3 seed in the NJCAA Region XV tournament.  Game time and opponent are yet to be determined.

Congratulations to the baseball team on an outstanding conference season and good luck as the Regional Tournament begins.
