Box Score 3 April 20, 2015 – Bronx, NY
BCC finished off their regular season series against the Tigers of Queensborough over the weekend, winning three of four to bring their CUNYAC record to 6-2. The Broncos picked up where they left off on Tuesday, winning 14-4, then 9-2 before falling 8-4 in the final game.
In Friday's game, the ball was jumping off the Broncos bat as they went for a season-high 14 runs, fueled by homeruns from
Andres Otero Jr.,
Jose Marte, and
Francisco Ogando. Otero made the most of every trip to the plate, he came around to score after all 4 plate appearances, with a giant 3-run blast in the third inning to put an exclamation point on his day.
Ruben Gomez was the star of the show in the next game. He continued to confuse batters as he has done all season, striking out 8 in his complete game performance. The second year player has hit his stride this season, in his past 2 outings he has racked up a combined 17 strikeouts as he continues to lower his ERA. Ogando opened up the scoring with a 3-run shot over the left field wall, picking up his 2
nd homerun in as many games. The Broncos remained in the lead, but the Tigers stayed in striking distance until the cleanup hitter
Edwin Hidalgo closed the door with a 2-run single in the bottom of the 6.
A 4 run lead was too much for the Bronx to rally back from in the second half of the double header as they fell to the Tigers for just their 2
nd conference loss of the season. With three big wins in this series they clinched a spot in the CUNYAC Championships, now they sit just one win out from locking up the #1 seed in the conference.
The Broncos look to become the CUNYAC regular season champions with a win in their next appearance against BMCC. Come out to Ohio Field to watch the baseball team square off against the BMCC Panthers this Tuesday. First pitch is set for 4pm.Â
