Bronx CC Basketball Teams Visit Manhattan – Different Results

December 13, 2015 -  Bronx, NY

Spending Saturday afternoon in the Gymnasium at Borough of Manhattan CC (BMCC) watching Community College basketball games is great fun.

At 12PM the Broncos Women's Team played the BMCC Panthers.  In the 1st quarter, the Broncos played well enough to be ahead at the end by score of 12-3.    The rest of the game was more of the same as the Broncos scored 39 points in the last two quarters to earn a win by a final score of 62-27.

For the Broncos, Barbara Castro shot well, showed energy, and contributed 6 assists and 6 steals with only 2 turnovers.        Barbara Castro makes move on offense.  

Shakia Artist, Angel Mbamalu and Freshmen Julia Hohn had good games.

At 2PM, the Broncos Men's Team played the current CUNY Athletic Conference Champions – the BMCC Panthers.

On the December 8, 2015 national poll rankings, the Broncos were listed in # 9 position.  Click HERE to view Rankings.

The fans of both teams witnessed a close match from the start.  They watched teams with speed, energy and skills.    The first half final score was Bronx CC – 44 BMCC = 41.

The 2nd half provided more of the same excitement as the intensity of play increased.  Near the end of regulation, Jatton Pierce-Bias missed his first free throw attempted and later made the second attempt to send the game to an overtime period.

The overtime had many exciting and unexpected plays.  BMCC made their field goal attempts while the Broncos missed their shots including the last attempt to end the game.  BMCC = 86 Bronx CC -=  84.

The Bronx had 5 players scoring in double figures – Jatton Pierce-Bias, Karon Williams, Yohan Almonte, Jonathan Frazier and Richard Gethers Jr. played well and made significant contributions on offense.

On defense, the Broncos efforts to stop BMCC skilled players was not consistent and did not accomplished the goal - to win.

The Broncos will play AWAY games in Bayside, NY against Queensborough CC at 6:00PM Women's game and at 8:00 PM Men's game.

The Bronx Teams will not be playing any more games in 2015.  The students start their Final Examinations for the Fall 2015 Semester on Wednesday, December 16, 2015.
