Broncos’ Bats Hook Sharks

The high-octane offense of the Bronx Community College baseball team led them to victory over the Suffolk Sharks this past Saturday.  The Broncos put up a total of 10 runs in the game, 5 of which came in the 2nd inning.

As he has been all season, 3B Danny Rojas was once again a focal part for the Bronx at the plate, recording 2 hits and 4 RBI's. SS Claudio DeAza reached base in all 4 of his plate appearances, including 3 hits. C Jose Marte was a big contributor as well, going 3-5.

After scoring a run in the top of the 1st, the Broncos blew the game open in the 2nd inning scoring 5 runs. BCC tacked on 3 more runs in the 4th, extending the comfortable lead to 7-0. SP Lutty Santiago held Suffolk scoreless until the 5th inning, when the Sharks scored 5 runs of their own. Santiago was able to sustain the blow however as he shut out Suffolk for the rest of the game. Santiago recorded 6 strikeouts total and received the win, improving his record to 2-1 on the season.

The Broncos are now set to face Nassau Community College in the first round of the 2014 Region XV Championships. The game is scheduled for Thursday, May 8th at Mitchell Field in Uniondale, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30pm.
