Steve Spagnoli

Stephen Spagnoli

Stephen Spagnoli was named the Sports Information Director at Bronx Community College in late August of 2022. It will be the 20-year veteran's second stint at BCC, having previously held the same position at the institution from January of 2018 through August of 2021.

"We are thrilled to announce the return of Stephen Spagnoli to our athletic department," Director of Athletics Kelly Peloquin said. "Steve's robust resume includes 20 years of experience in the world of intercollegiate athletics. Not only is he a polished, versatile professional in the athletic communications world, he also has a vast understanding of the business aspect of this field as well. Steve did a fantastic job of promoting our student-athletes and growing our program during his first tenure here, and we look forward to him stepping back in and helping our department continue to improve."

During his first stint at Bronx Community College, which featured a stay of over 3.5 years (Jan '18- Aug '21), Spagnoli's contributions were vital in revamping the department's exposure from a sports information perspective. Spagnoli increased the department's social media presence, promoting the student-athletes on various platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Youtube, while also overseeing a complete redesign of the department's athletics website, BronxBroncos.com. The athletic communications veteran constructed gameday graphics and programs to promote contests, while also serving as a key component in the planning and execution of the department's annual athletics banquet. Also, because of his familiarity with the intercollegiate athletics community, Spagnoli was appointed a member of the department's hiring committee, as well. Now returning to the Bronx for a second time, Spagnoli is excited about the possibilities of the program.

"Without mincing words, I'm ecstatic about the opportunity to return to Bronx Community College," Spagnoli said. "During my first tenure at this institution, I prided myself on being able to implement some of my creative ideas and translating those into some excellent avenues of exposure for the student-athletes. Whether it be through journalism, graphics, photo galleries, brochures, social media blasts, or verbal messaging, I look forward to once again serving as the Sports Information Director for the student-athletes of the great borough of the Bronx, and more pointedly, Bronx Community College, for the upcoming athletic year and beyond. I'd like to thank Director of Athletics Kelly Peloquin and Vice President of Student Success Irene Delgado for facilitating my return here, and to say I'm pretty excited about starting would be an understatement. I'm eager to continue doing what I do best, and that's enrich the experience of student-athletes by working tirelessly to promote them."

In addition to his role as the Sports Information Director at Bronx Community College, Spagnoli also serves as the full-time Sports Information Director at senior CUNYAC institution Medgar Evers College, and has since early August of 2021. There, Spagnoli has prided himself on learning the culture of the historic school on Carroll Street, balancing a number of tasks in the process. In addition to overseeing all aspects of the Medgar Evers athletics website, Spagnoli has also worked with Sidearm on the redesign of the athletics website, which is set to be unveiled in September of 2022. In addition, he has implemented more detailed game programs, while boosting the department's social media followers and number of posts per year. Spagnoli serves as the department's statistician for all home contests, and has coordinated scheduling for multiple programs, while overseeing contract exchanges. He is currently collaborating with Hudl, a company that provides video review and performance analysis tools for sports teams and athletes at every level, in an attempt to revamp the department's video streaming approach.
Most recently, Spagnoli has assisted in streamlining the process of student-athlete preseason clearances, implementing a student-athlete "All-Access" login area on MECAthletics.com, where students can obtain all the necessary forms and documentation they'll need for each forthcoming athletic year.

Prior to his appointment at Medgar Evers, Spagnoli was at Berkeley College, where he served as the Assistant Director of Athletics. During his 6.5-year tenure at Berkeley (December 2013-June 2020), Spagnoli was a vital member of the department, taking on a plethora of business and administrative duties. He designed and implemented a new state-of-the-art athletics website, handled all media relations obligations (pre-game and post-game articles, website maintenance, statistics, game programs, etc). In addition, he was the department's Scheduling Coordinator, while also booking lodging, solidifying buses, and reserving meals on travel days for all teams. Spagnoli also served as a key component in the planning and execution of the college's annual Athletics Banquet, and was the lone media relations contact for Berkeley College's teams at all USCAA National championships since March of 2014. During Spagnoli's tenure at Berkeley, the institution captured five USCAA Division II men's basketball titles (four for men's basketball, one for New York men's soccer), and a combination of 10 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns.

Spagnoli previously served for two years as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Information at the City College of New York (2010-2012). Prior to that, he worked at Lehman College, where he spent three years (2007-2010) as the Lightning's Director of Sports Information and Intramural Coordinator. At the College of Staten Island, Spagnoli organized clips, compiled statistics for the department's home games, helped out with the scheduling and implementation of the intramural program, and posted flyers around campus. As his tenure progressed, he began taking on more in-depth responsibilities, including publishing game programs and brochures, assisting with media guides, serving as the public address announcer for athletic events, and assisting in the upkeep of the CSI athletics website. In his final year at CSI, Spagnoli served as editor for Staten Island's sports information newsletter, "Dolphin Sightings," a monthly publication that included numerous human-interest stories centering on CSI athletes. Spagnoli also lent his efforts to various activities, including the annual CSI Barnes & Noble Golf Outing, Annual Awards Banquet, and various high school and CUNY Conference tournament events held on CSI's campus.

Alongside his duties within Staten Island's Office of Athletics, Spagnoli also worked in conjunction with WSIA, 88.9 FM, CSI's campus radio station. There, he served as Sports Director while also serving as host to many professional and college sports shows, including the "Thursday Night Sports Wrap" and the "CSI Sports Insider." Spagnoli also served two years as the official play-by-play announcer for the Staten Island Yankees Class A baseball team. In addition to working with the baby bombers, he also worked for the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium during the 2003, 2004, and 2007 postseasons, assisting the media relations staff with all aspects of operations during the playoffs.
