Broncos push Monroe Express in Saturday Doubleheader

The Broncos travel Tuesday (Apr. 12) for CUNYAC play against the Kingsborough Community College Wave

BRONX, NY - The Bronx Community College Broncos (4-8) concluded their season series against the Monroe College (Bronx) Express (10-13) in a non-conference doubleheader inside Roberto Clemente State Park. The Express retained the upper hand with a victory of 10-11 in seven innings and 3-13 in five innings.

Game 1

The Broncos came out of the dugout swinging, scoring five runs in the first inning. Alex Messon (2-of-4, 4 RBI, BB) hit a timely double to center field, running in Angel Calderon (0-of-4, 2 RBI, BB) and Alan Breton (1-of-4, 2 RBI, BB). Monroe bounced back taking the lead in the second inning on an Ernie Farrell sacrifice fly, putting Jose Arrieta across home plate to put the score at 6-5. The Express extended their lead into the fifth inning, but the Broncos were not far behind. With bases loaded in the seventh inning, A. Messon pushed Breton and Christopher Messon home to put Bronx back in the lead, 10-9. Monroe would have the last word as an Arietta sacrifice fly gave the Express the victory on the walk-off score by Anthony Gonzalez Jr.

Game 2

Unable to capitalize on the scoring in game 1, the Broncos were unable to register a run until the third inning. The Express ran away with the game on an Ernie Farrell double that earned three runs to close out the game.

The Broncos travel Tuesday (Apr. 12) for a CUNYAC doubleheader against the Kingsborough Community College Wave (7-9, 4-0 CUNYAC) inside Kingsborough Community College Field at 4 p.m.
