BRONX, NY - The Bronx Community College Broncos returned to Ohio Field after a brief two-game road trip to close out their regular season against the Suffolk County Community College Sharks falling 11-1 in five innings.
Suffolk began the contest on a leadoff hit by Nick LoMonaco (2-of-3, 3 R, RBI, BB) off pitcher
Alan Breton (L, 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB). Two batters later Alex Knopf (3-of-3, 3 R, 6 RBI, BB) knocked a double to center field to score LoMonaco and Anthony Amato.
Yolbi De La Cruz (3-of-3) slugged Bronx's first hit of the game, with a two-out double in the first inning.
Angel Calderon (1-of-3, SO) followed with a single to push Cruz to third base. In the fourth, Knopf connected on a gut-wrenching homerun that also moved another baserunner across home plate to push the lead to 6-0. The Broncos broke their scoring drought off a
Steven Correa (1-of-3, R) double that settled the 11-1 final.
The Broncos advance to the CUNYAC Championship Wednesday (May 4) against the Kingsborough Community College Wave inside Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, NY.
