The Broncos suffered their worst defeat of the 2019 campaign on Friday afternoon, losing to Middlesex by a score of 16-0 in Edison, NJ. With the loss, Bronx's record is now an even .500 at 14-14 on the season.
Middlesex set the tone for the day early, as the Blue Colts plated four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and another six in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 10-0 advantage after two. The Blue Colts would finish as strong as they started, as Middlesex dented home plate three times in each of the fifth and sixth innings to account for the 16 runs.
Blue Colts started Devin Schelmety earned the victory, as he pitched a complete game shutout (seven innings), allowing just three hits and issuing one walk while striking out seven.
For Bronx,
Aneudy Pimentel took the loss, as he started and lasted just one inning, allowing 10 runs (nine earned) on eight hits while walking four.
The Broncos were only able to record three hits on the day, all singles.
Quincy Williams,
Marcos Ayala, and
Adrian Urena accounted for the hits.
Bronx will return to action on Sunday, as the Broncos will host a doubleheader against the Express of Monroe-Bronx. Start-times for those games are scheduled for 1:00pm and 4:30pm.
