Game Recap: Baseball |

Jonathan Fonseca's incredible all-around game paces Kingsborough to 10-2 victory over Bronx Friday afternoon

The Broncos' baseball team dropped its second consecutive contest, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough by a score of 10-2 (seven innings) in CUNYAC action on Friday afternoon. The game took place at Ohio Field. With the loss, Bronx dipped to 10-7 on the year, and 6-2 in conference play. The Wave improved to 11-12 on the 2019 campaign, and 8-2 in CUNYAC action.

Bronx got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning, courtesy of a two-RBI double by Quincy Williams. Neudy Salvador and Adrian Urena came around to score on the play, and the Broncos owned an early advantage.

That lead didn't last long for the Broncos, as Kingsborough would score five times in the top of the fourth inning to catapult to a 5-2 advantage. Those five runs came courtesy of a RBI single by Jonathan Fonseca, back-t0-back-to-back RBI walks drawn by Abner Victor, Robert Hart, and Anthony Oliva, and a RBI groundout by Reilyn Pena.

The Wave added two more runs in the fifth on a RBI walk by Hart (his second of the game), and a groundout by Oliva that allowed Walfi Regalado. Kingsborough tacked on three in the sixth (two via a two-RBI double by Fonseca, and another via a RBI single by Victor) to increase its edge to 10-2. Bronx failed to score in the bottom of the sixth or seventh, essentially ending the game via the eight-run mercy rule after seven innings of action.

Fonseca, in addition to his stellar day at the dish, hurled a complete game in grabbing the victory, as he tossed seven innings, allowing two earned runs on two hits while issuing four walks and striking out nine. His counterpart, Bronx's Juan Vasquez, got the start and took the loss, struggling through three-plus innings by allowing five runs (all earned) on four hits while walking three, hitting a batter, and whiffing three.

Kingsborugh collected nine hits on the afternoon, including three by Fonseca (double, two singles, two runs scored, three RBI). Peter Lombardo singled three times, dented home plate three times, and walked, and Victor singled, scored a run, walked twice, and drove in two.

Bronx didn't have much cooking offensively today, though Williams had a fine day at the dish, doubling, walking, and driving in a pair of runs. Urena singled, scored a run, and walked in the loss, as well.

The Broncos and the Wave will wrap-up their season series tomorrow, as the two teams will meet in a conference doubleheader on the campus of Kingsborough. Start-times are scheduled for 12:00pm and 3:15pm. After tomorrow, the teams won't meet again until May 1, when they'll face off for the CUNYAC title at MCU Park.
