Broncos slip to 1-3 on 2019 campaign after suffering 15-2 loss to Bergen Bulldogs at Ohio Field

The Broncos' dropped a game this afternoon, falling to the Bulldogs of Bergen Community College by a score of 15-2 (enforced mercy rule after five innings). The game took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the loss, Bronx lost its second consecutive game, dipping to 1-3 on the 2019 campaign. With the victory, the Bulldogs catapulted to a mark of 8-3.

Bulldogs starter John Barone pitched a complete game in earning the victory, tossing five frames and allowing just two runs (both earned) on six hits while walking three and fanning 10. He did a great job of escaping trouble, especially in the early innings, as the Broncos stranded seven baserunners in the opening three frames.

Bergen led the contest 7-2 after four innings before turning up the voltage and plating eight runs in the fifth. Bronx failed to score in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the game to a conclusion with the Bulldogs owning a 13-run advantage after five complete innings.

Suffering the loss for Bronx was Matthew Rivera, as he hurled 2.1 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits. He also walked a batter while also striking out four. A majority of the Broncos relievers struggled on the day, with Jerry Jerez, Jesse Castillo, and Aneudy Pimentel combining to allowing 11 earned runs on seven walks, three hits, and two hit batters.

Offensively for Bergen, Elian Guzman recorded a pair of hits, including a double. He also scored two runs, drove in three, walked once, and stole two bases. Anthony Laureano and Andy Iglesias recorded two singles apiece. Laureano drove in a pair of runs, with Iglesias picking up three RBI's.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Hector Camacho and Adrian Urena picked up two singles apiece. Both of the aforementioned Broncos also scored on the day. Also, it was Marcos Ayala reaching base twice, as he recorded a single and was also hit by a pitch.

The Broncos will return to action Friday, as they'll take on the Lions of Nassau. The contest will take place at Ohio Field, with a start-time of 4:00pm.
