1/20/15 – Poughkeepsie, NY

The Bronx Women's Basketball team had both their best and worst halves of basketball this season on the same day.   Their best one wasn't enough to overcome their worst though as the team fell to Dutchess CC on Saturday by the score of 50-48.

In what was easily their worst scoring half of the season and in recent history, BCC struggled to just 7 points in the first half.  As frustrating as that was, the Lady Bronco defense did a good job in keeping the game relatively close, holding the Falcons to 24 points on their end.

Down by 17 to start the 2nd period, the Bronx scoring attack did a little better in the scoring department, but struggled to cut the lead down to something manageable.  With seven minutes left on the clock, BCC cut the lead down to 9 points as the team looked poised for another comeback.  But a flurry of scoring by Dutchess brought their lead back up to 15.  With 5 minutes to go, Bronx started to chip away again when Hivelize Escobar bookended a pair of 3 point goals around one from Frances Minaya.  That brought the Lady Broncos to within 2 points and an 18 foot jumper by Dominique Edwards tied the game at 48 with just 10 seconds left.

On the ensuing possession, a late foul by Bronx put the Falcons on the line and they were able to convert on both shots.  Bronx had one last chance to tie, but a last second shot was off the mark as they fell in regulation.  The team's 41 second half points was a season high, as they fell just short in their comeback bid.

Hivelize Escobar led the team in scoring with 27 points to go with 6 rebounds.  Angel Mbamalu had 8 points and a season high, 17 rebounds.

With the loss the team drops to 7-6 on the season.  They return to action on Tuesday, January 20 to host the Tigers of Queensborough CC at 6pm in the Alumni Gym.
