Box Score 11/14/14 – Bronx, NY

The BCC Women's Basketball team made it two in a row with their second straight victory to start the season, beating Dutchess CC, 58-52.  The win was the second straight game in which the Lady Broncos had to overcome an early deficit.

Bronx once again started slow in the first period.  At the 11 minute mark of the game, BCC trailed 17-9; but at 5-0 run brought the young team within 2 points with 6:28 left in the half.  From there they were unable to make up any more ground as they entered the locker room at intermission down, 27-21.

As they did in the season opener vs. Passaic, the Lady Broncos turned it on in the second half.  A defensive rebound and fastbreak layup by Sophomore, Hivelize Escobar got Bronx to within 1 at 35-34.  On the next possession the Lady Broncos took their first lead since early in the first with a drive by Escobar for the score.  The game went back and forth from there with each team taking small leads only to have the tide turn back the other team's way.

With 5:14 left in the game, the DCC Falcons hit a layup and converted the foul shot to tie the game at 47.  The score remained the same until the clock was inside two minutes.  The Falcons hit a free throw to take a one point lead, but that was quickly answered by a 3-point goal by Escobar to give BCC the lead.  On the next offensive possession, Freshman, Trishia Toussant hit a bucket to extend the lead.  Angel Mbamalu hit a key free throw down the stretch and the Lady Broncos pulled away from there for the win.

Hivelize Escobar led the team with 24 points and 6 rebounds while Freshman Chloe Walton pulled in 10 boards of her own.  Freshman Angel Mbamalu added 10 points, 9 rebounds and two steals.

With the win, the team moves to 2-0 on the season and returns to action on Saturday, November 15th at home as they take on the Wave of Kingsborough CC at 1pm in the Alumni Gym.
