12/4/2013 9:54:00 AM

Box Score Bronx, NY – 11/4/13

The Lady Broncos suffered their first loss of the season last night, falling to the Bulldogs of Bergen C.C. 74-57 in a non-region matchup.  With the defeat, Bronx falls to 2-1 overall on the season, but remains unbeaten (2-0) within Region XV.

The scoring started off slowly for BCC as Bergen jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes.  Bronx stormed back to tie the score at 8 as the teams exchanged leads for much of the first half of play.

Hivelize Escobar once again led the Lady Broncos with 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 steals.  Sophomore Dorae Murray also got in on the action with 13 points of her own.  Freshman Octavia Eubanks scored a season high 11 points thanks to her sharp outside shooting.

The Lady Broncos found themselves trailing by just 3 points as they came out of the locker room at halftime with the score 30-27.  The Bulldogs quickly opened up the lead to 8 points, but Bronx showed their grit closing the gap to just 2 points.  For much of the second half, Bergen would pull away and BCC would close, but with less than 10 minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs pulled away for good and extended the lead far enough to where the Lady Broncos couldn't close the gap.

Bronx returns to action on Thursday, December 5th when they take on LaGuardia Community College in Queens, NY.    The game will mark the first ever home game for LaGuardia's new basketball program and their first matchup against BCC.  Tipoff is at 5:30pm.
