Kwesi Keteni

On Wednesday morning, August 27, the Bronx Community College Department of Athletics announced the appointment of Kwesi Keteni as the new Student Athletic Program Coordinator. Following the announcement of the hiring, Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson spoke glowingly of Keteni’s experience.

“We are extremely excited about Mr. Keteni joining our Athletic Department,” Dodson said. “Kwesi has extensive experience in budgets and the operational processes of businesses. As a former CUNY student at both two -year and four-year colleges, he innately understands the journey of our student-athletes. He will be able to provide guidance and understanding as they navigate their academic journeys. Kwesi has a passion for helping students succeed that aligns with our athletic mission and the mission of Bronx Community College.”

Keteni comes to Bronx Community College after spending over nine years at Hopes Way in the Bronx. There, he supervised the development and execution of the annual fiscal budget, conducted thorough reviews and analyses of payroll transactions, compiled and distributed operational reports, examined data for patterns and trends to uncover root causes. He also directed the overall management of contracts, overseeing the approval process for requisitions and purchases, and oversaw long-term strategic planning and set departmental goals and objectives. 

In addition to his experience at Hopes Way, Mr. Keteni also spent a decade working for the Events Network in California as a Supervisor. There, he supervised a business operation with a budget of $11 million, overseeing revenue management, budgeting processes, forecasting, and reporting activities. He also managed daily operations and departmental expenses, monitoring a 20-member union staff. Keteni also streamlined scheduling and the staffing process, reducing payroll spending by 25 percent in a one-year period.

The foundation of Keteni’s expertise emanated from his time as an employee at the American Museum of Natural History, where he worked from 1999-2010. There, he create annual budgets, analyzing, reconciling and providing commentaries for variances. He prepared monthly and quarterly revenue expenditure reports, summarized revenue, and profit margins. Keteni’s expansive responsibilities saw him oversee the payroll process reviewing timecards, producing paychecks and managing direct deposit transactions. He also filed payroll tax documents, developed comprehensive daily operating procedures, reduced supply and equipment expenses by 20 percent, and negotiated and established valuable vendor relationships. Finally, he administered daily, operational projects and coordinated with Museum service departments for maintenance of equipment. Now at Bronx Community College, Keteni is embracing his new position, and is eager to engrain himself into the institution’s culture.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson for giving me the opportunity to serve as the Student Athletic Program Coordinator at Bronx Community College,” Keteni said. “I bring a very strong value system with me to this institution, and a tremendous amount of passion – a passion that will be channeled towards affecting these student-athletes in a positive way. This is a tremendous campus with wonderful students, and I’m looking forward to learning the culture and getting to work.”

Keteni obtained an Associate’s Degree from the Borough of Manhattan Community College. He also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College in Accounting, Finance, Management MIS, in 2001. Also from Baruch, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Quantitative Modeling in 2014.
